(More customer reviews)The HD-28 is the finest sounding standard sized dreadnought on the market. After playing a few high-end guitars over the years, the HD is without question THE guitar. While consensus gripe among acoustic guitarists is most Martins produce dull or muted bass notes, I agreed. Not so with this clean and bright Martin. When I purchased my first HD-28 over a decade back-recently lost in a house fire-I spent months looking all over the North East to find the right guitar and was close to going custom. I was hoping to find both good sound balance and clean respond. WOW! The HD-28 has that and more. It is easy to play with a nice fingerboard and and well chosen wood-rosewood fretboard-spruce top and back-a lovely exterior design. In short, it is the gold standard of acoustics. What makes the HD-28 sound so clean? It is constructed with lighter bracing than the D model. This change results in a guitar with consistent, clean and resonant sound. One thing to note is the light bracing requires a med string set at the max. If you stick with lighter strings (med-light are my favorite), a near perfectly balanced guitar will provide years of enjoyment. Best sound for the bucks. The exterior looks are also pumped up a bit with herringbone edging. The "action" required no changes once I broke it in. I am looking forward to having an HD once again to brighten up the sounds in my world.
